First on our list is the first restaurant we went to when our family moved to St Pete. Situated right by Green Bench Brewing and some perfectly instagramable murals, Red Mesa Mercado is a great outdoor spot to meet friends for a quick bite. Boasting the “urban drive-by dining style”, this is a no nonsense eatery perfect for noisy kids and tired parents to grab a delicious, fresh ingredient meal when cooking at home just isn’t on the menu.
With a variety of street tacos, delicious queso, and a solid drink selection, Red Mesa is always a family favorite.
Casita Taqueria

OK, I have to be honest that we haven’t yet ventured across the bay to Tampa’s Green Lemon yet, but it’s on the list! This lively eatery is known for their signature margaritas (no salt for me, please) and epic Taco Tuesdays. Their extensive menu features a wide variety of tacos bursting with flavors, including a variety of Fiesta Bowls sure to please everyone’s palate.

Chile Verde Restaurant

Last but certainly not least, let us introduce you to our family’s personal favorite, Grumpy Gringo! This family-friendly establishment boasts a menu filled with delicious, freshly prepared tacos and serves up a variety of Mexican classics, like tamales, cochinita pibil, horchata and many others. And let’s not forget the highlights for the little ones – their sweet Churros and kid-friendly quesadillas with the oh-so-good cheese.
While the kids gobble down their treats, my wife and I relish the blissful silence of contented
eaters, raising a toast with a cold draft beer and savoring the outstanding flavors of their birria tacos. Grumpy Gringo truly knows how to create an atmosphere of casual culinary joy for the whole family.
